This week on The Northwest Georgia Music Hour we enjoyed a visit with Nashville singer/songwriter Matt Mason and manager John Roberson of Bigfoot Music & Outdoors. Mason is all over the place right now in support of his recent release, The Writer’s Collection: Volume One, which is a collection of songs released over the last ten years plus three brand new ones. Thursday he’ll be performing at Sixes Tavern in Cartersville and Friday he’ll be at the State Line Tavern with a concert benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.

We also took a peak into a huge weekend of live music including the Rome Shakespeare Festival and Old Mill Farm’s Farm Fest 2017 in Cartersville. It’s safe to say that this is not the week for couch binge watching. If you’ve read this far, your definitely going to want to get out. Here’s what we heard.

Chloe Litton – Whipping Post
The Strange – But I Do
My Ninja – Shin Shee
Tina & The Goose – Irma
Matt Mason – E
Matt Mason – Outrun Your Mind (live)
Matt Mason – Seven Years Old (live)
Matt Mason – I Run

Talking Finster Fest 2017 + More!

May 25, 2017

FF2017Compendium1

L-R: Stu, Austen Earp, Mullins, Seth Turner.

When you get Seth Turner, Austen Earp, Stu McFab, and myself in a room the conversation gets pretty ridiculous and all over the place. Fortunately, we did a semi-decent job of sticking to the intended subject, Finster Fest 2017. At least while the mics were on. The late Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden has been a folk art destination since the 80’s, with art and culture enthusiasts regularly visiting Northwest Georgia from all over the globe. Finster Fest is an annual celebration of the Reverend’s legacy. I can’t really explain it, but Seth and Austen did a great job.

We also talked about the upcoming Rome Shakespeare Festival, which starts next week. This is the time of year that we all look forward to. Please don’t miss out on all the great opportunities ahead. You’ll be glad you didn’t. Here’s what we heard.

The Barbaric Yawps – No Place to Call My Home
The Shameless Natives – Mary Mack/Drunken Sailor
Stu McFab – Just Like a Woman
Thunderbolt Patterson – With a Little Help From My Friends
The Kamikaze Dali – The Lion Song
Muletide Perkins Trio – Hubcap
Graham & Vann – Birds
Rome Shakespeare Festival Band – The Goblin Song
Ethos – Supernova

Cousin Baz Shaw Compendium

Well, I sure hated to hear that our good buddy Vic Burgess was retiring from music. He will definitely be missed by all his adorning fans. Nonetheless, we did enjoy getting to meet Vic’s cousin, Baz Shaw, this week on The Northwest Georgia Music Hour. Baz is one interesting bird and his story, like his music, is fascinating. Aside from having a wonderful time with Mr. Shaw, we managed to get super excited about another packed weekend of live music ahead. Here’s what we heard.

Rob & Dave – Cinderella Blues
Swingset – Circle K

Michael Teague Compendium

L-R: Mullins, Lillian Shaw, Todd Williams, Michael Teague (pic by Stu. Thanks!)

We managed fit an abundance of goodness into this week’s episode of The Northwest Georgia Music Hour! Stu and I had a great time visiting with singer/songwriter Michael Teague. We’ve previously listened to tracks from his album, Whiskey in the Morning, and it was good to hear one of those played live, as well as some originals not yet recorded. Michael plays regional songwriter nights often and will perform a full night of music on June 9th at the 400 Block Bar.

We also had a blast talking with Lillian Shaw and Todd Williams from the upcoming Rome Little Theatre production of 9 to 5. The show kicks off this Friday at the Historic DeSoto Theatre. This one is going to be a hoot, guaranteed! I’m looking forward to it! Here’s what we heard.

The Kamikaze Dali – The Mannequin Dance
Boxwine & The Brewnettes – Sunshine Sandwiches
“9 to 5” chat with Lillian and Todd
Michael Teague – The Hard Way (live)
Michael Teague – Over You (live)
Michael Teague – Fades to Gray (live)
Michael Teague – Hell of a Place to Start (live)
David Bell – King of Nothing
Atomic Boogie – Slung a Rod

A visit with Kara and Jeremy of The Kamikaze Dali!

May 4, 2017
The Kamikaze Dali Compendium

L-R: Stu, Jeremy Wells, Kara Murphy, Mullins (pic by Matt D. Thanks!)

The Kamikaze Dali have a sound that is truly their own, which is why Stu and I take pride in sharing their music on The Northwest Georgia Music Hour every time an opportunity provides. It’s been two years since their previous self-titled album appeared but we still keep it in rotation as if it was just released. That’s why we’ve been looking forward to this week’s episode, where we would hear tracks from the brand new album, Three River Revelry, for the first time. We were not disappointed, at all. We were the opposite of that, and then some.

The Kamikaze Dali album release party will be held in the Schroeder’s Courtyard on Saturday, May 13th. I recommend catching the show and bringing enough cash to take home the CD. Here’s what we heard.

Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret. – Fixin’ to Die
The Barbaric Yawps – Bring Me a Leaf
South of Heaven – It Ain’t Me
The Kamikaze Dali – The Mannequin Dance
The Kamikaze Dali – Motion
The Kamikaze Dali – Blackberry Winter
The Kamikaze Dali – The Cold
The Kamikaze Dali – The Numbing
