As we mentioned in a previous post, we are super excited that Finster Fest 2016 will return to Howard Finster’s Paradise Gardens! This week on the Stephens’ Music Company Northwest Georgia Music Hour we were visited by Paradise Gardens director, Jordan Poole, and Festival Music Coordinator, Seth Turner. We were also pleased to have Katrina Barclay and Austen Earp join us for a live performance. Since this year is the Finster Fest Homecoming there will be a slew of renowned folk artists from all over who were inspired by Finster. This being a show about music, we sampled as many of the performing artists as possible and had a blast doing so. Here’s what we heard.

Jerry On The Moon – Out The Door
Katrina Barclay w/ Austen Earp – Coward (live)
Little Country Giants – Morning Time
Boo Reefa – Robot John Keats
Muletide Perkins – Dinosaur (live)
Tina & The Goose – Lemonade Brain
Graham & Vann – Tat Shop

The Freewheelin’ Vic Burgess

Vic Burgess Compendium

Stu McFab, Vic Burgess, Mullins

Our good buddy Vic Burgess, Stu, and myself all had a pretty hectic start of the day so by the time we all arrived at the 95.7 The Ridge studio we were ready to kick back and listen to some great local music on the Stephens’ Music Company Northwest Georgia Music Hour. Heck, Stu showed up in pig tails. Vic is a singer/songwriter from Lafayette who is one of our faves. He’s laid back, funny, talented, loves Star Wars, and always makes for a great guest. We like when that happens. Here’s what we heard today.

The Briars – Saturday
Tina & The Goose – I Never Will
Graham & Vann – Birds
Channing Wilson – Nowhere To Go
Vic Burgess – Hey There, Palamino (live)
Vic Burgess – In The Darkness Of This Town (live)
Vic Burgess – Never Get Out Of This Fog (live)
Vic Burgess – Amanda Pelham (live)
Vic Burgess – Gas Station Chicken (live)

Mark your calendar for Finster Fest 2016

May 9, 2016

FinsterFest2016

We’re very excited to see Finster Fest 2016 have its long-awaited homecoming! The popular folk art gathering returns to Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden. Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, May 29th will be here before you know it, so make sure to plan your trip to Northwest Georgia’s Pennville Community in Chattooga County. The annual Finster Fest features folk artists from all over and a fine assortment of regional musicians as icing on the cake. We couldn’t be happier to see the festival return to Paradise Garden as it has been carefully restored over the last four years. If you haven’t been there recently, you are in for an extraordinary treat. Visit the Paradise Garden website for more information and check out this video from the Paradise Garden Foundation.

Stu McFab and I were pleased as punch to be joined by The Barbaric Yawps on this week’s episode of the Stephens’ Music Company Northwest Georgia Music Hour. The new and larger studio at 95.7 The Ridge sure came in handy as we fit all four members of the band in the room with a guitar, mandolin, banjo and double bass. Jim, Thomas, Joel, and Kate are a splendid group to visit with and when they kicked out the jams we were downright delighted. Catch them this Friday night at Dark Side of the Moon in Downtown Rome. Here’s what we heard.

South of Heaven – Headroom
Katrina Barclay – Explosions In The Sky
David Bell – The Day Bobby Went Electric
Donny Hammonds – Every Day That Ends In Y
Muletide Perkins Trio – Landmines
The Barbaric Yawps – Jordan’s Song
