Five40 – Through With You

June 28, 2012

Check out the debut video from Five40, “Through With You”. Matt D & I and a whole bunch of Ridge Runners fell in love with Five40 during this past April’s 95.7 The Ridge/Rome News-Tribune Battle of the Bands. If you haven’t heard this fresh new band from Calhoun, then you are in for a treat.

Glenn Phillips Band Highlights Big Weekend of Music

June 7, 2012

It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through 2012. Time flies when you’re having fun and I think that’s why it’s zipped by; too many fun things to do. This weekend is the same. Some musical highlights to look forward to are Scott Warren & The Booze Mountaineers, Bent in Bama, Thunderbolt Patterson, Backswing, Cory Tucker, and the annual Cave Spring Arts Festival, which I’ve enjoyed going to since I was a youngling.

One highlight to look forward to is Glenn Phillips Band in the Schroeder’s Courtyard. They were rained out in May and this Saturday they’re going to try it again. Glenn may be rained out more than any other act in the courtyard year after year. I have a theory on that. As many know, Glenn Phillips is one of the most incredible and most respected guitarists in the wide world of rock & roll. Lowell George called him “the best guitarist I’ve ever seen.” When Glenn plays guitar listeners forget about almost everything else. So, my theory is that Mother Nature is jealous of Glenn. Thunder and lightning are unimpressive after attending a Glenn Phillips Band performance. Therefore, it is in Mother Nature’s best interest to try to limit the amount of exposure to Glenn’s talent in order to retain the respect that she is used to.

So, if you haven’t seen the Glenn Phillips Band then you have an opportunity this Saturday night and it is highly recommended. You always hear about Glenn’s guitar but the whole band is made up of incredible musicians and they have a sound unlike anyone else. I believe everyone else who knows would agree.
